چکیده

Evaluating computer music research from the system point of view has not been established because of the subjective nature of music. In order for such research areas to evolve and prosper, we believe the evaluation method based on objective understanding is essential. We started and propel RENCON (performance rendering concours), a world-wide-landmark-project tobe, in order to seek and propose an evaluation method for music systems taking performance rendering system as the typical research of manipulating Kansei information. Musicians and musicologists also expect to see the result of the project in how to describe music analysis and cognition objectively. Futhermore by letting people be widely consious of the project, we hope RENCON to enlight people on the computer music research, encourage them to participate it, and enpower the research itself. In this paper we will report the activities of RENCON and its majestic goal.

After the first year of Rencon

Rencon, CONtest for performance RENdering systems, started in 2002. Since we have not had evaluation methods for such systems whose output is interpreted subjectively, furthermore performance rendering is a research of not only computer science but also musicology, psychology, and cognition, Rencon has roles of (1) pursuing evaluation methods for systems whose output includes subjective issues,...

Rencon 2004: Turing Test for Musical Expression

Rencon is an annual international event that started in 2002. It has roles of (1) pursuing evaluation methods for systems whose output includes subjective issues, and (2) providing a forum for researches of several fields related to musical expression. In the past, Rencon was held as a workshop associated with a musical contest that provided a forum for presenting and discussing the latest rese...

Expressive Performance Rendering with Probabilistic Model

We present YQX, a probabilistic performance rendering system based on Bayesian network theory. It models dependencies between score and performance and predicts performance characteristics using information extracted from the score. We discuss the basic system that won the Rendering Contest RENCON 2008 and then present several extensions, two of which aim to incorporate the current performance ...

Performance Evaluation of Self-reconfigurable Service-oriented Software With Stochastic Petri Nets

Open-world software is a paradigm which allows to develop distributed and heterogeneous software systems. They can be built by integrating already developed third-party services, which use to declare QoS values (e.g., related to performance). It is true that these QoS values are subject to some uncertainties. Consequently, the performance of the systems using these services may unexpectedly dec...
